Just curious Kevin, but that aft Barbette, what's the plan to keep that sucker from flooding in long stern runs? At least that was my problem with Texas. Ended up fixing it with a plate and some silicone in the barbette to prevent it. I stopped drilling out my barbettes and just use a hole big enough for the cannon's neck now. What's your plan to address it?
I'm planning to print the barbetts with the elbow holder, turret mount setup, and a solid layer covering the opening, so it will be sealed up. Aft deck will be attached with the 1/2" wide magnetic tape which has shown to be pretty waterproof I printed up the casement inset for the aft deck Measured and drew outline for the deck piece This is the general idea, need to cut the angle on the end pieces and glue it all together Sealed up the deck rim Also added magnets for the forward deck. These have worked well for me on the other builds
Thanks guys Couldn't really get past the stare-at-it-phase tonight. Here's the pump outlet tube arrangement The plan is to build the aft deck piece, add barbetts, then add guns/mounts. Solenoids will be attached to the deck, so that weight distribution will determine the internal arrangement of the bottle (mainly size), control box, and batteries. I think I have a good-enough plan to move forward tomorrow evening
Interesting how you laid the decks in relation to the step, that could really come in handy on my next boat.
Yeah, I’ve used that deck scheme on a few builds. This one is rock solid which is nice Printed first barb today. Ran out of abs so may wait for more to get the rest
Work on aft deck aft magnets A barb good down angle for an A turret rest of aft deck wood with SS will be waiting for filament to print remaining barbs, will make guns and get aft deck together until then
Epoxied deck aft deck magnets, part 2. Film between magnets to catch excess goop, line up magnets clamp deck down on glue waiting for magnets for last portion. Started making guns (not pictured) while I wait for abs
Abs arrived, printed up remaining barbs and turrets Pleased with the turrets starting to look more like a ship Gooped the barbs in inside of barbs is solid except for tube holes (for flooding prevention) Next will be gluing the aft deck levels together. I also made up the guns, so I’ll start bending the mags and determine the mounts. Planning for all solenoids to be attached to deck for 1/8” tubing
Starting to get guns set up Plan is to get the magazine caps to come out of the barbs. I’m 0 for 1 on getting the bends correct thus far Gooped the aft deck together next step will be getting the mags bent and adding holders under the deck, then solenoid mounts
That's looking really good - you tempt me to buy another boat I'll never finish. Meanwhile - what kind of printer are you using? Is that ABS or (?), and how is it working out for you?
Thanks Chris. I have a Qiditech dual extruder, and yes that's ABS. It's working out pretty well, I've been pleased with the ABS durability. Some of the sections that will be exposed to fire will get a layer of fiberglass cloth Props on
Been looking at that new Hermera extruder pretty hard myself. Still not sure what way I want to go yet.
Good, I like ABS, but I really need to build an enclosure for my Prusa - when the air conditioner/heat is running, funny (not funny) things happen sometimes. I'm trying some new PLA+ that I found on Amazon for my new Scheer superstructure. Hopefully it will be good enough for cruiser work. (And hopefully I'll get to play with it at Nats this summer) The Seydlitz is getting a new SS printed with TPU. Huzzah. Anyway, carry on - have a good weekend, etc. By the way, Mr. Beckett would approve of your brazing-fu.
More photos from weekend. Cleaned up props post brazing now to make some rudders Made magazine mounts fwd side has solenoid mounts too. Still need to figure out plan for aft solenoids
