Halves were releasing as I drilled the bolt holes.... a very good sign. Deck lip board pulled off easily. Another good sign. Recovering clay, then deck edge trim. Soon the big reveal.... don’t change that channel.
Reclaiming clay revealed some movement in a 12” section the deck lip on the port side. I had to grind the lip to exaggerate the step, then build a tape dam. Custom cut glass scab piece got sank into the tooling gel pond and.... VIOLA! No more wonky lip. It set back the reveal a couple hours, but better to be done right.
Today the Kongo line increased to 7... Dori and I were cracking up laughing that we have a Kongo line... Requests will be filled in the order received....#8 will be a late February delivery if you get your name in next. Send no money until we’re ready to ship.
Had the same ugly looking result with the Espana mold - the plug was a wreck but the mold cleaned up fine and eventually ended up with Strike Models.
Molds are beautiful. Suction from the PVA Just was stronger than the thin drywall mud skin over the foam. Will all peel out easily, Just was too tired to finish cleaning it. Had to wake up early to get kids off to school and be on time for day job working for the man.
Molds peeled out beautifully. Hull #1 will be out this weekend. Now 8 dancers in the Kongō Line. Looking at late February/Early March for anyone who wants to join in as #9. Please don’t send money until your boat is ready to ship. Still serving #0.
Wax on - wax off will be Thursday. I had to fly to Georgia to speak at a conference helping teach people how to get free college for their kids. Home on the red eye tomorrow night.
That looks great. Honestly, if I didn't have a Derfflinger, I'd be very very tempted. As it is, I'm only very tempted.
Kongō production got delayed as the shop heater was needed for a backyard transmission replacement on our sons truck ahead of the 8” of snow coming about 1 am.
Worked through the night until at 6am, we realized we didn’t have any exhaust gaskets. We didn’t make it. Still the exhaust intermediate pipe and drive shaft to go this morning...in our homeless shelter for wayward mechanics. Then onto the Kongō later tonight.
