I don't do this for a living, luckily retired with a understanding wife. I will wait patently because it will be worth it.
Hi! I built the ww2 version of the hull and 1.5” props were plenty for the ship. The risk you will run with larger props is that they will extend outside the lines of your hull and be subject to being clipped by other ships scrapping paint with your stern. I was able to make speed easily with 500 motors, gears, and stock props from BC. As the WW1 version is even lighter these should be fine. If you can wait to get the ship in hand it may be best to measure what will fit. I can attest 1.5 is more than enough for the ship, though in general a larger prop may give you better acceleration / performance though your rudders will cover less of the wash, as you will only have class 4 rudders.
In fastgun, it will be 4.50 Sq. inches for a class 5 not 3.75 sq. inches for a class 4....... not sure if you are refering to Big Gun or Treaty, but for Fast gun I, will stick with the 1.75" props and take the accelleration they give .
I used 1.75” props on my Kongo. Hudson has 1.5”. We both made speed. We turned the same but I started and stopped much better than he did. His props were changed to 1.75”.
What a crazy week. Our sons clutch went out, set us back 3 days, my uncle passed away, followed 4 days later by my aunt (his wife of 65 years) what a love story they wrote! But alas, the first Kongō is finished... will be out of the molds before we go to bed tonight. They will be popping out about every 3-4 days, so those of you waiting will be very happy soon!!!
I'm sorry for the loss of your Aunt and Uncle - it's amazing how those so close pass so soon after one another; my grandparents were the same.
Ta-Da! Going to be $159 with free 48 state shipping and a crude blurry scaled up to 1/144 public domain PDF.
YAY! After a long journey she is finaly done! This moldmaking process was very interesting and exciting. Now to deal with the Kongo line.....
Hull 001 arrived whole and in good service. First off, WOW, just WOW. GLASSY and smoother than any hull I ever built. Not necessary but nice to see. Second: WOW JUST WOW. The thickest sides ever, I would say .308 proof. But I won't do that test.
Looks purty, but you'll have to get someone else to print a superstructure for it. (Feeling lazy this year) Or maybe just distracted with my own projects
