BTW, Tug how are the turrets coming? they weigh much? I ordered my speed controllers today, 2 Viper marine 40amp, I figure they should be ample to power the 4 550 size motors
They won't weight much, they're hollow. I'll have concrete numbers next week. I'd have them sooner, but we leave for the in-laws tomorrow (for the weekend). Have you considered ballast tanks? Under the rules, you can build them so that they can't be used as variable ballast, but rather so you can drain the water from them and make your ship easier to carry. That's my plan for Tirpitz.

In that case, I'd make some sturdy boxes to hold the ballast (that can be held in with thubscrews or wingnuts) so you can pull some ballast out before lifting. Either that, or buy a canoe trailer

Yes they are great fun. A breeze to park on campus too. I did not get the S model, some times I wish I had. The normally aspirated one is quite zippy enough for my needs though. j.

Just waiting on the speed controls to come in and I'll be able to do a full power speed trial. wasn't able to do a float test this past weekend do to the weather but the hull is all painted. going to use a 6 volt system to power the ship to keep everything simple. the 4 graupner 7amp/hr batteries that came in the other day will be used for the motors only, will be getting 4 more for the other system on the boat (used for ballast also @ 40 oz apiece) so that will put me at 20lbs of batteries, anyone else use this much? Marc here in Orlando uses a 36 amp, 6 volt for his drive, and 2, 12 a 6 volt for his pump. Its around 25 pounds worth of batteries. His Yamato weights in at around 57 pounds. But is a slow turning ship. The only real problem he has had, is he had to go to a 1/4 scale servo for the rudder, even the metal gear expensive ones were packing it in after about 15 minutes of battling, they were overheating trying to turn that much weight. So far the new one is working fine.

8^O Holy crap. That's my new definition of BIG. I used to brag to non-warship combat people that my battleship was "as tall as I am"... Now, it's in the realm of possibility to say that it weighs as much as I do!
heehee, that reminds me of the time that the *little asian* president of my club built an HMS Hood. He got really good at patching in the car, because he couldn't load or unload it by himself. Turning ability is related to the moment of inertia of a ship, which is based on how spread-out the mass of the ship is. If it turns slow, then you can just re-arrange the guts so that the heavy stuff is in the middle.
A question to all involved in Battlestations; do to the size of the ships the distance that projectiles can hit enemy targets is extended this also means that for some of the larger BB's cant hit below the water line of ships closer than a foot away from its own hull. what happens if you (a battleship captain) is surrounded by destroyers at close range, your shots are bouncing off the decks of the enemy ships but their guns are scoring hit after hit. Is it considered a ram if you go hard to port or starboard to get out of the situation if you end up "running over" one of the offending pests?.
