Hey guys, question about the penatrable area on Yamato. What needs to be done in the hull area where the life boats were stored? The bulged area. That area was open from the aft area of the ship.

Hey guys, I looked again. That boat storage area will not be a problem. I can continue the second stringer (armor belt) back to that area. Just thinking out loud. Wanted it to be right before I started cutting.
    Thanks,

I purchased material tonight for the Yamato super structure. I hope to start laying it up soon.

To make it easier to sheet I am looking at taking the BC Yamato hull I have and alter the armor belt. What I hope to do is add about 5 layers of epoxy and resin inside the hull at the armor belt area. When this is completed I plan to file the armor belt down so that it will be easier to sheet.

    Tug,
I think I am going to try to carve some blue foam and glass it.
Build the superstructure just like a hull. Make cardstck "ribs" and sand the blue foam down to that. Then some West System and 2 layers of light cloth.
    Thanks,

My first thought was 'strong but heavy'. Then i realized what ship we're talking about :) Yammer is what, 45 pounds? 50? Noooo problem!

I will probably use some variant of your technique for the SS on my 1/96 Nevada.

Yeah, I just don't want to be bothered with s/s after it has been built.
I hope to mount all the little details on springs.

Started tinkering with the Yamato layout. As you can see the ship hul has plenty of room. Yamato will carry 4 6 volt 12 amp hr. batteries. 9 oz. Co2 bottle and regulator fits nicely between the batteries. You can just see the aft bilge pump. Yamato will have 2 pumps.

Picture of the aft bilge pump area. Two 970 Johnson motors and the water tight box. You can just make out the top of the armor belt. I plan to lay the hull on it's side and add 5 or 6 layers of cloth and resin on the inside of the hull. I will then file the armor belt to make it easier to sheet the hull.

A view of the batteries, Co2 bottle, regulator, aft bilge pump and 970 motors. You can also make out the top of the armor belt and the bulge. This is a Battler's Connection hull and is not slab sided like my Alabama.

View of the forward bilge pump, 9 oz. Co2 bottle, regulator and forward batteries. Yamato is 8 units in Treaty. I plan to run 2 pumps, 2 port sidemounts, 2 starboard sidemounts and 2 stern guns. Again you can see the top of the armor belt which will be modified and the bulge. You can also see the stern of the Suzuya in the back ground.

This is a view of the bulge and armor belt. Yamato is allowed 2 stringers between ribs. This is due to the complex shape of the hull//"hull shape dictates." Some other ships that are allowed to use 2 stringers are Venneto and I think Hood.
