Hello all, I am rebuilding some superstructure components of a ship built by a local member that unfortunately passed away & I am not sure where to find the material he used for the superstructure of his ship. It is a closed cell stiff "foam" that I believe is used for exterior trim around windows... but I'm having a heck of a time tracking it down except for something at home depot which is not in stores to inspect. Any suggestions as to where I can locate some online (or locally SoCal) would be appreciated. Thank you, Harry image included is of the material used in the boat. it is very firm & lightweight. Easy to sand smooth.
Looks like foam rubber, used to be used in pads and pillows. other suff like sanding blocks all kinds of things really, not sure where you would find it now though.
It’s hard as rock, not soft or flexible. lots of B.B. dents but none have penetrated. Sands and grinds easily. this might be it, but I want to see it in person before I spend $45 bucks. My local, stores don’t have it in stock. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fypon-3...rethane-Flat-Trim-Moulding-FLT113-8/203279615
This could be what he used. https://support.bantamtools.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671814-Machinable-Foam
i have just constructed a superstructure for my refitted admiral sheer out of blue foam. it is probably not as hard as what you have now but it is reasonably dense. it has been use on ships in our club with good results NTXBG and you can get it locally, target walmart any sporting goods it is found in the exercise section i think it is called a yoga block. blue about 4x6x8 cost about $3.00 used a hack saw to cut thickness slabs, hole saw to cut rounds, xacto jewelers saw to cut shapes it will sand, leaves fuzzy s, but enough primer will deal with that good hunting
